Suicide Prevention?

On June 9th the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (www.afsp.org) is having a 20 mile out of the darkness walk from 8pm to 5am through Manhattan to benefit suicide prevention in America. I am participating in this walk because I feel this is a good way to help those who have lost all hope and have no where else to turn. Each participant in the overnight walk (www.theovernight.org) pledges to raise a minimum of $1,000 which the money goes to raising awareness and support for suicides and to help families of those who have been left behind. If you feel that you are interseted in supporting the AFSP and all people that they help then I ask that you follow this link to my participant homepage (http://www.theovernight.org/index.cfm?fu... and sponsor me in this walk. All donations go directly to the AFSP and all donations are tax decuctible. Please check out the web site for more information on this beneift. Thank you for your help!

Migraine prevention medication question?!?

Hey guys. I have had migraines for 10 yrs. I have tried preventative--- topamax, depokate and inderal. My doctor put me on 20 mg of inderal, and it didn't do ANYTHING. My mom went on blood pressure medications and her headaches have virtually disappeared... I have changed doctors since..and have read online about it--most people take between 160-240 mg of inderal per day (at least 80 mg) for migraine prevention.

My NEW doctor had offered to put me on it but I said no (not realizing the difference in mg's was THAT big)...

I have also read that Elavil is good for migraines and sleep (and depression). I have trouble sleeping and of course, have ridiculous migraines. Plus, I have suffered from depression (but I they have diagnosed me with having bipolar, if i take a SSRI -bipolar IV - i believe).

I am wondering what peoples exp's are w/migraine prevention--specifically inderal and elavil. Trying to decide what to try first, if anything at all...

Migraine prevention medication question?!?
Hubby has tried nortriptyline which worked well at first but after a while even with the dosage increased it didn't work. He is now using Verapamil ER 120mg daily and this works well for him. Let your doctor work with you to find out what works best for you. You only mentioned a couple of drugs being tried for migraine preventions so you have tons more you can try if you want to.
Reply:I asked a question about migraines and someone suggested Relpax and increasing potassium. Ask your doctor about that and see if he thinks that would be right for you.
Reply:hi, well first..whats your blood pressure like?

then ,health -weight -any spinal injuries..been to a good! chiropractor? had neurological causes ruled out?

i,d be bloody depressed if i had regular migraines too, and ssri,s can cause them also!

ok i found a little daisy type plant it grows happily anywhere! it is called FEVER FEW. 4 leaves ripped up in a cup. add water ,hot! some sugar, maybe a squeeze of lemon..let it cool , and sip it. in about 20 to 30 mins if you rest quietly , you could be feeling better! yes i know it sounds too easy. and its basically free and a whole lot safer too. yes there are some people who get a reaction to this plant, (itchy mouth) i have been told..however i have never actually found anyone yet!

if you are female also get blood hormone levels checked if you can, and keep a diary of how and when you get sick.

heavy duty drugs should be a Last resort! never the first choice.
Reply:There's a new development in migraine therapy:

Crime Prevention and Insurance?

I am helping a friend of mine start a crime prevention consulting business after recently retiring from law enforcement. This is something he specialized in while a police officer and I (also a former police officer) have some experience in developing small businesses. The question I have, as we develop a solid business plan is what sort of benefits to insurance companies offer relating to crime prevention measures. Or are their resources to find out more on this?

Crime Prevention and Insurance?
You'll have to prove to insurance companies that this crime prevention program actually cuts down crimes. The problem is, it needs to be more widespread than just one city.
Reply:One of the most intelligent questions asked here.

I would look to the larger companies, such as Factory Mutual for large risk application, and to Chubbs for specialized premium reduction based on loss deterent applications. Normally, the mom and pop homeowners businesses are tied to trend analysis data, and will want to see a great deal of real backed up huristic data before they would consider. If you could get a foot in the door of the two mentioned above, you would be too busy to deal with homeowners anyway.

Injury prevention?

what are the best methods for injury prevention in snowboarding, especially people who do tricks? I have the impact pads for my tailbone, wrist guards, knee pads, helmet, and a dirt bike pressure suit that protects the upper half of my spine. however, my lower back is exposed. do the RED burton spine protectors protect the whole spine?

also, I work out in the gym to prevent injury and be a better boarder. are there other strategies for injury prevention?

Injury prevention?
When I first started hitting the park I did that same thing as you an bought a whole bunch of protective gear. Wrist guards, spine protector. I got rid of it after about half a season though. I just found it all to be too cumbersome and restricting and at the end of the day it will only save you some bruises.

The best thing to do is just to start small and progressively work your way up to bigger jumps and hits. As you improve you'll get a better sense of what causes you to fall and how to avoid it or at least anticipate and prepare for it. Just plan out your hits, visualize what you're going to do, and practice. You'll outgrow all the pads pretty quickly. Now I pretty much ride with only my helmet.

There's always the chance of a freak accident, but that's pretty much life.
Reply:Stay home. But if you must then your doing everything you can. Being smart is the best thing and if your going to trick out then get protective gear which you have. Also stretch stretch stretch stretch stretch. Before, during and after.
Reply:Know your limits, and don't get too out of control. You're smart to be taking safety precautions. Sometimes they offer classes in freestyle at resorts where they teach you the proper way to learn new tricks, and stay safe while doing the old ones.
Reply:Quit being such a pu$$y!!

"Prevention is better than cure":; is there anything else which is better than "prevention'?

Sometimes, the process of prevention converts into the obsession.

"Prevention is better than cure":; is there anything else which is better than "prevention'?
Magnolia, dear friend in the Dharma. . .

In illness there is suffering.

In stillness there is pain but no suffering.

'Thus have I heard'

In emptiness, "there is no pain, no old age, no sickness and no sign of death".

I look forward to emptiness.

(Sometimes the curtain lifts a little).

EDIT

If I think about prevention I am already in duality.

If I could let go of duality and 'drift the cosmos' then I would be in a state where neither illness nor prevention have even arisen.

Yes?
Reply:Elimination is better than prevention.

If you destroy the thing's existence and any chance of it ever again existing, then you don't ever have to take any other measures.
Reply:prevention is best

if you never have the disease, then your health is good
Reply:Awareness is necessary before prevention is poss.
Reply:Staying healthy is better than getting fat and then going on a diet. Prevention is better than getting a cure. But prevention can become an obsession when people take it too far, thus destroying the purpose.
Reply:To see the Goddess unveiled, here there is no words, no need of words, all is well [oops]. ~ : )
Reply:MEDITATION + FAITH : THAT'S BETTER THAN EVEN PREVENTION.

Prevention is better than cure "OR" Cure is better than prevention???

I think people will choose prevention is better than cure but are they prevent before cure? Or people just look at fact???

Prevention is better than cure "OR" Cure is better than prevention???
PREVENTION PREVENTION PREVENTION

In all cases. Once something happens where a cure is needed to fix it, it has gone beyond the point of ever returning to it's natural state. Even if a cure is found and applied, it can never be as good or as similar as it once was.

Example:

You accidentally put a hole in a wall. You can calk it, re-plaster it, re-paint it, but it will always be suseptable and vulnerable, because it is weaker. Same with a broken bone, aging skin, etc.
Reply:Well prevention is the important one i would think. With out prevention we wouldn't be able to find a cure. YOu can't just come up with a cure with out trying out things. That would be the prevention part. So prevention is pretty important. Report It

Reply:If you prevent then there is no need for a cure. But a cure is nice when there is an unfortunate reason for it.
Reply:"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" ...."they" always say. :)
Reply:Of course prevention is better than cure.

Data Execution Prevention closing Windows Movie Maker?

I imported a bunch of my DVDs to my computer and they are now in .avi format. I'm trying to make a video of clips in Windows Movie Maker and I can't even get past cutting the video into clips before I get an error message that Movie Maker has stopped working and has to close. It then tells me that Data Execution Prevention has closed the program. I tried following the steps to turn Data Execution Prevention off for Movie Maker, but apparently Data Execution Prevention cannot be turned off for this application.

Does anyone have ANY help for me? I've searched everywhere and it seems like others are having the same problem, but I can't find a solution that will work for me yet.

Thank you!

Data Execution Prevention closing Windows Movie Maker?
Yeah, I am having the same problem ,too. Actually , I could not even open any of my video folders because of this friggin Data Execution Protection. I tried to modify it via sysdm.cpl but there are no executable files in the folders to edit.

Sorry , as you can see this was not an answer but another plea for help.
