If your MIL had breast cancer then most likely she will have to take tamoxifen for five years to prevent a recurrence of the breast cancer. If this is your MIL's situation make sure she has regular pelvic exams since tamoxifen raises the chances of developing uterine cancer - which can be easily treated in the early stages in a woman getting regular exams.
