Working for Target Loss Prevention.?
I have worked for Target as LP before. I got paid around $10/hr. When I started there....They out you into uniform first which I thought wasnt that great. I am a former police officer and went through training to become undercover lp. Even though I had all of the experience they still stuck me in a uniform. You may want to make sure that you are going to be a plain clothes officer.
Reply:i can tell you about loss prevention for a competitor of target....

frankly, no one really knew how much they got paid...it was a weird set-up. they were kind of like their own entity. paid and trained seperately. anyway...i would guess they made about $12-ish an hour. something like that.

i can tell you that in a high crime area things can get very tricky. i've known people to get knives pulled on them and maced. however, i know one LP that threw a can of soup at a shoplifter's head...so, there are some things that they can get away with that a regular associate couldn't.

i've known some LPs to get hit and punched and kicked, but not too often.

understand that you can't just go around grabbing people. they have to pocket the merchandise and actually walk out of the door with it before you can apprehend them. until they are out of the store you can't touch em b/c they can claim that they were going to pay for that.

once they pocket something, then you MUST keep eyecontact 100% of the time. a bad bust could cost you your job in walmart. if they ditch the item and you didn't see it and you stop them and accuse them of stealing, well, that's bad news. there have been many times when i was a manager that i'd be following a suspect and if a customer stopped me and asked me something and i lost eye contact, then i'd have to let that person go. it sucked, but my job meant more to me than a DVD.

you will have to get comfortable with the video cameras and tvs and recording equipment. get comfortable with being able to blend into the crowd. LPs always wore street clothes and just hung around the store all day. they were working, but you wouldn't know it if you saw them. often times i would be at a store for a few months before i would realize who the LPs were.

also, you need to be able to handle a chase. if they start to run, then you want to be able to keep up. target may not want you to do this, though.

um...that's about all i can think of. oh, and it's not usually a 9-5 job. you're in there various times throughout the day and i know there were LPs that got involved in busting associates too. you're not just there to watch customers, but employees too. is a cashier stealing money?? watch some tape and see. is a manager dropping tires out the back door ?? check it out.

if you bust a manager then your career could take off. that's serious stuff.

hope this helps!
